<p>Within the same food centre as <a href="http://aromacookery.com/2009/12/02/old-long-house-popiah/" target="_blank">Old Long House Popiah</a> is this mee chiang kueh 麵煎粿 stall that 2nd Sis-in-law INSISTED I had to try! The other day when we were there for lunch, there was a steady stream of customers, but no queue. But according to her, this stall does a roaring business on Sundays.<span id="more-2423"></span></p>
<div id="attachment_2425" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 610px"><img class="size-full wp-image-2425" title="granny_pancake_02" src="http://aromacookery.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/granny_pancake_02.jpg" alt="Coconut pancake" width="600" height="370" /><p class="wp-caption-text">Coconut pancake</p></div>
<p>Mee chiang kueh is usually a non-event for me, cos whichever stall I&#8217;ve tried, they tasted mostly the same to me. But I was very pleasantly surprised by Granny&#8217;s Pancake.</p>
<p>As I bit into the evenly browned skin, the slightly crisp crust gave way to soft, chewy dough. The texture of the pancake is really good. It&#8217;s fragrant, light and chewy, yet has a melt-in-the-mouth quality. This was, literally, an eye-opening experience for me!</p>
<div id="attachment_2426" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 610px"><img class="size-full wp-image-2426" title="granny_pancake_03" src="http://aromacookery.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/granny_pancake_03.jpg" alt="Peanut pancake" width="600" height="400" /><p class="wp-caption-text">Peanut pancake</p></div>
<p>They&#8217;ve got the filling right as well. Three kinds of filling are available: red bean, coconut, and peanut.</p>
<p>The red bean was nice but not particularly memorable, but the coconut and peanut are absolutely delish! The grated coconut is very fresh and juicy, and not too sweet. The crushed peanut smells like it&#8217;s freshly roasted. They are very generous with the fillings, too! Can you see the grated coconut and crushed peanut spilling out of the pancakes?</p>
<p>Apparently, this stall has <a href="http://www.insing.com/food-drink/search?name=Granny%27s+Pancake" target="_blank">other branches</a>, but I have no idea if they are just as good.</p>
<p>Thanks, 嫂嫂, for your excellent recommendation! You have to alert me to more great eats next time we meet. <img src='http://aromacookery.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
