Penang Place

Hubby the fanboy wanted to check out Paradigm Infinitum‘s new branch at Fusionopolis, that’s how we ended up here one Saturday.

Fresh salads section

Having moved from International Business Park, the ever popular Penang Place buffet restaurant is still packing the crowds in. Despite its cavernous interior, the restaurant was full house when we came here for Saturday lunch. Thank goodness we had made reservations in advance, otherwise we might not have scored a table.

Warning: Plenty of photos ahead! Descriptions will be short and sweet to avoid being long-winded. Continue Reading »

Sample pack of UCA Cassava Chips (15 gm)

Last week, when I went to my friendly neighborhood 7-Eleven to get some stuff, I was given this free sample pack of chips.

Turns out that it’s one of my favorite munchies — tapioca chips! Locally, we refer to it as tapioca, but it’s also known as cassava. Continue Reading »

FIJI Water - natural artesian water from the islands of Fiji (Image courtesy of FIJI Water Singapore)

Here’s an awesome deal you mustn’t miss! For the month of November 2011, FIJI Water is running a unique water sampling program, where anyone can enjoy FIJI Water for free! Simply present 6 bottled water labels (of any brand) at any Swiss Butchery cashier’s counter in exchange for a 6-pack of Lil’ FIJIs (330ml).

Here are the three Swiss Butchery outlets you can go to:

  1. Swiss Butchery @ Greenwood
    30/32 Greenwood Avenue
    Tel: 6468-7588
    Mon to Sun: 9.30am – 7pm
  2. Swiss Butchery @ Tanglin
    56 Tanglin Road
    #01-02 Tanglin Post Office
    Tel: 6235-8080
    Daily: 9am – 9pm
  3. Swiss Butchery & Swiss Grill @ Coronation
    587 Bukit Timah Road
    #01-05 Coronation Shopping Plaza
    Tel: 6463-8080
    Daily: 10am – 7pm

If you haven’t tried FIJI Water, this is an excellent chance to do so! Bottled directly from the source — an aquifer buried deep within the ground in the remote islands of Fiji — FIJI Water is pure, natural artesian water. Nothing is added to it!

Its unique mineral profile contains silica — an important mineral believed to strengthen hair, skin, nails, bones, and connective tissue. With a pH of 7.8, FIJI Water’s mild alkalinity is ideal in combating the ill effects of excess acidity from smoking, stress, and certain foods.

Most importantly, you should try FIJI Water because it tastes good. I don’t usually drink bottled water. But when I do, I prefer FIJI Water because I find that it tastes less harsh. FIJI Water is known for its distinctively soft and smooth mouthfeel. Try it out and see the difference for yourself! Continue Reading »

Osia

Since its opening at Resorts World Sentosa less than two years ago, Osia — a fine-dining restaurant that serves contemporary Australian cuisine — has garnered rave reviews from critics and guests alike. Their menu features fresh Australian produce with an emphasis on crisp, natural flavors.

Recently, Osia was named Best Dining Experience at the Singapore Experience Awards 2011, organized by Singapore Tourism Board. To celebrate this win as well as other awards that Osia has received over the past year, new creations have been added to the menu. At a recent media lunch, I sampled some of their signature dishes as well as a couple of new additions.

Stonehearth flatbread, S$9.00++

Fellow foodies who have dined here have raved about Osia’s stonehearth flatbread, so I was really looking forward to trying it out for myself. They’re right, it’s truly fabulous! Continue Reading »

Thai To Go

Tired of delivery pizza and fast food, we thought we’d try something different for a change. So we decided to go Thai!

Dinner is delivered!

Ordering was a hassle-free affair. Their website is easy to navigate, and the menu clearly lists the food items — illustrated with photos — and prices.

We were told that our order would arrive in 60 to 90 minutes, but it arrived in about 50 minutes. The food was packed in microwaveable containers, with the soup container tightly sealed in cling wrap to prevent spillage. But our food was still warm, so there wasn’t any need to heat it up. Hokkaido red bean loaf, S$3.60

No, we’re not having their signature kare-pan (curry bun) today. Decided to try out something different from Pullman Bakery this time.

At first glance, hubby thought that this was a raisin loaf. But no, those red specks are sweetened whole adzuki beans.

The buttery bread is rather sweet, so we simply ate it on its own without any spreads. As for the crumb, it’s so fine and airy that the texture feels more cake-like rather than bread-like.

Quite nice, but this loaf is a little too sweet and cake-like for me. Hubby seemed to enjoy this more than I did!

Manna Story

Now that we have a 2-month old baby, life is VERY different. These days, destinations for our weekend family outings tend to be those that are baby-friendly (read: places that have baby changing rooms). We also tend to head for malls that can satisfy all our needs under one roof — namely dining and grocery shopping.

One such outing was at Plaza Singapura. When it came to dinner, we were enticed by this quaint-looking, country cottage-like Korean diner. As this casual eatery is by the same management of Manna Korean Restaurant — one of the pioneers for authentic Korean cuisine in Singapore — expectations were rather high.

Kimchi Jeon, S$7.80++

This was very promising. Generously studded with chopped squid, onion, carrot, and spring onion, the kimchi pancake was delightfully crisp around the edges. A pity the center was too thick, resulting in an undercooked gooey texture. Continue Reading »
