Henri Charpentier is a Japanese dessert salon that makes exquisite French-style cakes and pastries. It is tucked away in the depths of Dempsey, surrounded by a green forest. The interior is elegant and luxurious, with ceiling-to-floor glass windows looking out to lush greenery. It is truly a wonderful place to relax or have a quiet tete-a-tete with friends.
I had to review Henri Charpentier’s mille crepe cake for a story I was doing for HungryGoWhere. As it was lunchtime, I thought I’d order a light savoury item to try as well.
The Quiche Lorraine looks quite unremarkable. Thankfully, it tasted better than it looked.
The puff pastry was light and crispy. The filling was very moist, with juicy bits of bacon and onion. There was also a generous taste of cheese.
Here’s the mille crepe that I had to review for the HungryGoWhere mille crepe story. It’s one of the better ones I’ve tried, and it is certainly the most luxurious and classy-looking mille crepe cake I’ve seen. There’s even a gold flake on the swirl of cream on top!
The iced latte is a very generous portion. I was really stuffed after this “light” meal!
By the way, this “light meal” was not cheap. Total bill came up to about S$40. But the restaurant — with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking lush greenery — is a really beautiful and tranquil place to chill.
When you enter the restaurant, you’ll be greeted with a counter that displays a stunning array of pastry gift sets and cakes.
If you want to impress someone, you could consider these extravagant gifts of cookies.
The cakes look stunning, too.
The individual pieces are available for eat-in or takeaway. There are also whole cakes available for order.
Henri Charpentier is located adjacent to House @ Dempsey. Just go down the staircase on the right of the signboard, then turn left and follow the red carpet to Henri Charpentier.
