Roland Restaurant

We have some overseas relatives visiting us. Naturally we wanted to bring them to try our world famous Singapore chilli crab. Did a Google search and found glowing reviews of Roland Restaurant, who claims that they are the original creators of this iconic dish. And so a dinner was planned.

Long story short: Our meal was decent, but not outstanding. Most of the dishes were competently executed, but lacked a certain spark to make them memorable.

Chilled Pomelo Sago with Mango and Mango Pudding

Sorry to say, I prefer Jumbo’s chilli crab. Jumbo’s chilli gravy is richer, punchier, and more complex. I didn’t try the crab cos I don’t eat crab.

For me, the better dishes were: Crispy baby squid and crispy crullers combo, homemade beancurd, and the mango desserts.

This meal was for 13 people. In addition to the dishes above, we ordered a few bowls of rice, 25 pieces of mantou, and 2 jugs of beer.

Total cost of this meal was about S$540 after taxes.
