This was a quick lunch with a friend who works in Killiney Road. One of Real Food’s bestselling dishes, this dumpling noodle dish is her favorite item at this sprawling organic meat-free cafe cum lifestyle grocery store.
I too, became an instant fan. It’s so delicious you almost forget it’s a meat-free dish! Chopped vegetables encased in silky wonton skins, the dumplings are really tasty, even more so than most meat dumplings I’ve tried. The organic brown rice udon — tossed in a light, tangy tomato base sauce — is very appetising and more-ish. Fresh cherry tomato and blanched bok choy are served on the side. They also provide a very fresh-tasting and zingy chilli sauce upon request.
The fried rice — organic brown rice stir-fried with French bean, carrot, and capsicum — was decently tasty, but not as memorable as the dumpling noodle.
All the dishes at Real Food are made from scratch using organic ingredients. This accounts for slightly higher prices, which I think is a fair deal for wholesome, quality ingredients. There are wheat/gluten-free, vegan, and soy options. You can also request for certain ingredients like garlic and onion to be omitted (for Buddhist vegetarians). The menu consists of rice, noodles, pasta, pizza, sandwiches, soups, salads, and all-day breakfast options. As an occasional vegetarian, it’s always nice to discover another worthy meat-free place.
