Hubby and I were running errands in this building when we needed lunch. Despite being hidden in a remote corner on the top floor, this casual Italian family-style restaurant — which is actually a chain from Japan — was bustling with activity.
The reason? Their ridiculously cheap prices for Japanese-style Italian fare. There’s pizza, pasta, hamburger steaks, doria (cheese-baked rice), and escargots (isn’t this French?) — all for under S$10 each dish. Best of all, prices are nett! No service charge or GST to inflate the bill!
We ordered 2 weekday lunch sets. Each main course comes with a salad, rice, and free-flow drinks from the beverage counter.
Nothing particularly special here, just a mixture of mesclun greens with Thousand island dressing to kick-start the meal. At least the leaves were properly chilled.
Here’s hubby’s main course. Moist and tender, the hamburger steak was decent. But the tasty fried chicken wings were more exciting, albeit on the small side.
The grilled slice pork is supposedly one of their specialty dishes. Generously flavored with black pepper, the thin slices of pork belly were rather salty on their own, but went very well with plain rice.
By the way, they served generous portions of Japanese sticky rice, which I thought was rather value for money.
If you order a main course from the ala carte menu, you can add on S$2.80 for free-flow drinks per person.
For cold drinks, there’s:
- lime juice
- orange juice
- Pepsi Light
- Mountain Dew
- Ice lemon tea
- Root beer
- Sparkling H-Two-O
For hot drinks, there’s:
- Teh tarik
- a variety of tea bag flavors
The grand total we paid for this filling lunch was S$18.70 for two persons. The food was decent, portions were generous, and a variety of drinks were free-flow. Thumbs up!
