Hubby’s breakfast #044: Casa Verde

Hubby wanted to go for an early morning walk at Singapore Botanic Gardens today. Normally, I would be most unwilling to climb out of bed at the ungodly hour of 6am on a Saturday. Lucky for him I was in an unusually good mood, and thus decided to indulge him.

Western Breakfast Set, S$13.50 nett

Now that the food court has ceased operation, the next most pocket-friendly F&B outlet in Botanic Gardens is Casa Verde. It’s also the only place that serves early breakfast (7.30am to 11am daily). The breakfast menu consists of Western fare such as English breakfast, French toast, waffles, as well as local dishes like chicken congee and mee siam.

Bread basket - part of Western breakfast set

Hubby ordered the Western Breakfast Set — fried/scrambled eggs, chicken sausages, bacon, grilled tomato, hash brown, mini croissant, 2 slices of toast served with butter & jam, fresh fruit/orange juice, and coffee/tea.

The food was competently executed but predictable. In fact, hubby commented that the food wasn’t piping hot enough.

But the Western Breakfast Set was definitely very filling, and we thought, rather value-for-money. In fact, it’s probably hearty enough to share between two light eaters.

Colazione Della Mamma, S$12.50 nett

“Colazione della mamma” means “mom’s breakfast” in Italian. In this case, it was Italian sausage frittata, toast, and coffee/tea.

Frittata = Italian omelette

Regretted my choice of frittata aka baked omelette. It was overcooked, which resulted in rubbery and dense texture. Taste-wise, it was rather bland too. Definitely not worth the $$.

Casa Verde = "green house" in Italian

While the food was just average, its pleasant surroundings more than made up for it.

Al fresco dining area

Most diners prefer to chill out in the patio, where one can enjoy lush greenery and gushing sounds of nearby mini fountains and waterfall.

Super adorable West Highland white terriers!

Being a child-friendly and pet-friendly joint means that this is a very popular destination for families. There’s a kid’s menu for little tikes, and water bowls are available for furry paws!

    Hi
I love when your hubby’s breakfast entries. My 80-year dad and I love lazy mornings with full American breakfasts (especially the ones that are a bargain!) and so I am always on the look out for recommendations. I’d just like to ask you some questions on Casa Verde. I hope you don’t mind ‘cos I usually have to scout the place out before bringing my dad there. It has to be totally comfortable for him. Being older, he is a bit more fussy, plus the fact he walks very very very very slowly and has a bad back so the place has to be quite senior citizen friendly.
    Questions:
    1. You mentioned that you were there on a Saturday, was it very crowded? 2. Is there a particular time frame on Saturdays where it gets very very crowded and thus service might be slow? My dad doesn’t like crowds and worse if he has to wait for a really long time.
    3. I’m just wondering if it is better to bring him on a weekday as opposed to a Saturday?
    4. Another thing, I probably have to drop my dad off at the porch and then drive off to find parking. Is parking very far off?
    5. Is it very far to walk in from the front porch/entrance to the restaurant? And is the walk on a rough terrain or a flat surface suitable for senior citizens?
Thanks so much. Thank you for your patience.

We strongly believe that customers who provide constructive feedback are also the ones who genuinely desire to see the restaurant do well.

We’ve noted your observations on the execution of the Western Breakfast Set as well as Frittata. We will look into how to improve the quality and texture of the items and we hope to impress you on your next visit.

Should you have any other feedback, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you and we look forward to serving you soon.
