Yigloo

Noticed the recent explosion of frozen yogurt cafes? It’s great news for fro-yo lovers like me! With competition heating up, fro-yo cafes are upping the ante to attract customers.

Let's do the Yigloo!

One of the newest kids on the scene is Yigloo, located at Basement 2 of VivoCity. It’s next to Petite Provence and where the food kiosks are.

Their concept is simple. First, pick a size.

The flavors

Next, pick a flavor. If you can’t decide, you can choose to have them all! (Erm, but is it really a wise idea to mix so many flavors together?)

These are the machines that dispense the fro-yo.

Here comes the fun part: The toppings!

Fresh fruit galore!

Fresh fruit galore!

I did a rough calculation: There’s about 20 to 30 kinds of toppings. Take your pick of fresh fruits, nuts, chocolate chip, candies, and even diced jelly!

You can choose as many types of toppings and as much of them as you can pile onto your fro-yo. The only rule is: No refills.

They have six flavors at any one time. But they didn’t have Original flavor that day, so I chose Blueberry Tart, which is tangy like Original. The other flavors are sweet. I also tried their new flavor–Strawberry Shortcake.

Being in a fruity mood, I went for the fruit toppings, with the exception of almond. Can you identify the fruits? (Answer below)

Yums! Very nice indeed. Yigloo’s fro-yo was lusciously smooth and creamy.

Flavor-wise, I preferred Blueberry Tart. It was refreshingly fruity and tangy. The Strawberry Shortcake was too sweet for my liking, with a slightly artificial flavoring that I didn’t fancy.

I also asked for a sample of Dreamy Dark Chocolate. Ooh! It was rather rich, with a subtle bittersweet, chocolatey goodness. I almost forgot I was eating fro-yo, for it tasted more like soft-serve ice cream!

There’s limited seating in the cutesy cafe, decked out to look like a child’s bedroom. Yeah, it’s all very quirky, but the miniature chairs are NOT exactly comfy for adults, nor are they the best seats for ladies wearing mini-skirts!

That said, Yigloo’s wide variety of DIY toppings concept and great-tasting fro-yo is memorable enough to warrant a return visit.

(Answer: The fresh fruit toppings were strawberry, mandarin orange, dragonfruit, and mango.)
