High tea set @ TCC – The Coffee Connoisseur

TCC high tea set

TCC High Tea Set (April/May), S$12.90++

This was an unplanned shopping pitstop at Isetan Scotts. It was already past lunch hour, but I wasn’t hungry cos of a heavy breakfast. Still, I needed some fuel to keep going till dinnertime. TCC’s dainty high tea set looked like the perfect solution.

The tea

Breakfast Tea for afternoon tea?

The high tea set includes coffee or tea (only peppermint or breakfast tea). I picked the latter.

Canapes

Canapes

Started with the canapes.

Smoked salmon: A wee bit fishy, but still acceptable. Would have preferred the toast to be slightly thicker, so as balance the heavy topping.

Chicken ham with mango: I thought the mango would be distracting, but it was more of a garnish than anything else. The ham was thick and tasty. Nice!

Mini fruit tarts

Fruit tartlettes

These mixed berries and mango tartlettes looked pretty, but taste-wise was really disappointing!

The fruits looked and tasted like they’d been sitting around for too long. The custard filling was a bit too thick. Worst of all was the soggy tart cases, which looked suspiciously like those commercially pre-baked type.

In the end, I only picked at the fruit and left the custard and tart cases untouched.

Scones

Scones

Surprisingly, the scones were really yummy. There were two kinds – chocolate chip and sultana. The biscuit-like exterior was nicely crisp, while the warm interior was cakey, buttery, and melt-in-the-mouth.

I’m not usually keen on scones, but these really won me over. BTW, these were quite filling. Maybe I should have just ordered the scones ala carte.

After taxes, the total was S$15.15. Too bad the tartlettes weren’t fresh, otherwise it’s not a bad deal.

This High Tea Set (available 2pm to 6pm) is supposedly TCC’s special for April/May 2010, but today (1 June 2010), I passed by two TCC outlets and saw that it’s still being offered.
