Tupperware Eco-Set

My afternoon snack of sausage bun, raisin, and mini chocolate bars.

Happy Earth Day, fellow Earthlings! Did you do your part for our home planet today?

Actually, we’re supposed to do our part for the environment EVERYDAY. Practise the 5Rs: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repair. Hey, if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem!

Anyway, just wanted to share what I got. Managed to know of this special deal through a friend. Tupperware has a limited period offer in conjunction with Earth Day 2010. The Tupperware Eco-Set consists of a sandwich-sized container and water tumbler. Simply share an environmental-saving tip and you can purchase it at an offer price of S$10 nett (usual price S$20).

I just got my hands on two sets (one for hubby, one for me!) to add on to my Tupperware collection. *glee* Am planning to use it to pack lunches or afternoon snacks. It even comes with a washable drawstring bag. So cute and nifty!

These days, I do try to make a conscious effort to be more eco-friendly, for instance:

  1. I refuse plastic bags when buying small items.
  2. I bring my own food containers from home when buying takeaway food. Sometimes, this isn’t possible when I’m already out. Usually, I do this when buying food from the neighborhood coffeeshop.
  3. I recycle plastic bags by lining trash bins with them, and throw them out only when they’re full.
  4. At home, we try to cut down on turning on the air-con, and use the fan as much as possible (though it’s rather hard lately with the sweltering heat!).
  5. We install energy-saving lightbulbs at home, and buy electrical appliances that consume less energy.

What about you? Have you got any eco-friendly tips to share?

Hi^5 I do almost the same 5 points as you and I also bring my own bag instead of using plastic bags for supermarketing most times. Another 1 good way to cut down on disposable bags is to refuse plastic/paper bags when buying clothes. Don’t you feel that the clothing is 1 small pce and the packaging bag is always so big? Moreover they just collect dust when reach home so might as well refuse it in the very beginning. Lastly, I would like to urge more ppl to categorise the garbage and those that can be recycled (paper, plastic bottles, glass bottles) to be dumped into respective bins.

Tell me about it, I have a whole drawer full of paper/shopping bags from buying garments! Even though I recycle them, they are still good enough for multiple use.

And I think our govt should do more to educate and encourage people to separate their garbage (paper, plastic, glass) for recycling.
