Last Friday, hubby and I had an impromptu date night at Holland Village. After dinner, we wanted to have dessert at NYDC. But when we got there, it was closed for renovation!
Then we spotted Cold Rock a few doors away. Now, this concept of mixing ice cream with various toppings on a frozen marble slab has been in Singapore for a couple of years. But being the “mountain turtles” that we are, this was a first for us!
First, you choose a cup size and flavor. Cup sizes start from Kiddie (S$4.50), and you can select up to two flavors. I picked Ferrero and Honeycomb.
Next, select what you want to mix-in. Choose from a mind-boggling array of fruit, chocolate, nuts, candies, and cookies! Each mix-in costs S$1.00. I picked Boysenberry.
So, my total damage: Kiddie-sized ice cream (S$4.50) + 1 mix-in (S$1) = S$5.50.
I think my ice cream flavors and boysenberry clashed horribly. They were rather generous with the berry, but its strong tangy flavor totally masked out the Ferrero and Honeycomb ice creams. Next time, don’t order Boysenberry. It’s full of seeds!
On the other hand, Rick got it right by mixing Rum & Raisin ice cream + Chocolate ice cream + Choc fudge. This combo tasted much nicer!
We thought this was a rather cool concept, BUT… only if you pick the right flavors to mix! On their own, the ice creams taste quite ordinary, so I don’t see any point coming here if I’m not going to add any mix-ins.
