While queueing at the supermarket check-out counter the other day, this colorful box caught my eye. Another one of those limited edition Kit Kats from Japan! I knew I had to have it.

Have a break, have a Kit Kat Fruit Parfait.
While growing up, I didn’t obsess over Kit Kats unlike some of my peers. But every now and then, I did hanker for a Kit Kat bar during breaks. Must be due to their successful tagline, which automatically replays in my head whenever I see that distinctive red-and-white packaging.
In the last couple of years, there have been several variations of the Kit Kat, released as limited or special editions. Most of them are from Japan, where the Kit Kat is hugely popular.

Two twin bars in a box.
The Japanese are not only creative with flavors, they are also masters in design and packaging. See how eye-catching and pretty the box and wrappers are! I’m totally sold.

"Strawberry striped white chocolate with freeze dried bits from five fruits and strawberry creme filling in the wafers".
So, what’s the taste test verdict? Three words: Sweet, sweet, sweet. No kidding, it was very sweet. Extremely sweet. Sickeningly sweet. So sweet even my sweet tooth hurt.
The Kit Kat Fruit Parfait also had a plasticky, fruity flavor, reminiscient of bubblegum, and I don’t mean that in a good way. Both Ricky and I couldn’t take the sugar overload, and had to abandon our unfinished wafers. Yup, two grown-ups each defeated by a twin bar of tacky Kit Kat.
Well, that’s us, but apparently, there are fans of the Kit Kat Fruit Parfait. For me, it will remain as eye candy (pun unintended), and nothing more.
cheers!

I just tried those Fruit Parfait kit kats too! They’re mediocre-to-nice for me.. but my boyfriend thought they were fab. I posted some pics here if you’re interested:

Nice seeing an SG-based food blog. I’m here for another week and am having a blast eating my way through SG
Yep. They really are creative with their flavours alrite. I saw a Cheesecake KitKat, the Cherry Blossom KitKat, Capuccino KitKat etc in Singapore. Goodness know what else they have in Japan. Hopefully not wasabi KitKat. lol.
yup, it’s very very sweet! i blog abt it too. i miss the green tea ones i had in japan! btw, where can i get the capuccino kit kat? don’t remember seeing it over the counter at our major supermarkets.
I’ve been asking around. Seems that the Japanese love their confectioneries much sweeter than we are used to.
elle, wasabi Kit Kat? Heh. I saw the Cherry Blossom KK too, but after the Fruit Parfait, don’t think I’m brave enough to try it.
The Capuccino KK is from Australia, I think. Sounds good. Haven’t seen it though. Anyone who’s seen it in SG?
Beverly, thanks for stopping by. Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in SG!
I tried the dark chocolate Kit Kat recently, and I lurve it! It is not as dark as i wish, but good enough for my cravings! :p
give me a break, give me a break, break me off a peice of that kit kat bar!
yum yum yum =P
I do agree that it’s overly sweet. And the bubblegum-alike flavor is abit too much for me, albeit a sweettooth me. Just once and that’s it =)
Well…at least they made the flavours very memorable. I think these candies are meant to shared. One packet = 4 people to nibble!
Surfed over because someone linked to your tofu/mushrooms recipe. I’m such a sucker and will try any new Kit Kat product – wish it would come here to Canada!
I think the problem with the Fruit Parfait was that it’s not developed for the taste buds of Japanese people -not necessarily native- because when it comes to foods, if they mean sweet, they mean very very sweet. Like what you guys have experienced. I mean, look at their curry. Sure, they used brown sugar to make it have that unique colour, but put a spoonful in your mouth and its just.. sweet.. and i’m talking about extra hot Vermont Curry here. Kit-Kat and Curry are not related very closely, though.. hmm..
